Login to ask a questionA wonderfully desirable colour; this exceptional, original light tan Eames Herman Miller dining side chair on its used light oak DSW dowel base looks stunning. An interesting colour, to the discerning eye it is easy to see how it can work in anywhere from a professional to a home setting with its neutral charm.
The success of the Eames Shell Chair was largely helped by the wide range of colours they were made available in. This explosion of colour began in the late 50s, but really took stride through the 60s with the assistance of the upholstered versions offered with the assistance of the Eames’s good friend, Alexander Girard.
Individual Characteristics
As a vintage shell this is in good condition. The deep colour is still strong and the strong fibrous finish is excellent. There are some light age related marks to the shell with some gentle scuffs around the edges but no more than would be expected for its age.
The ‘C’ with the 5 pointed star inside indicates this shell was produced by Herman Miller in their Cincinnati Milicron plant between the years 1965-1978. Interestingly, this shell also retains a sticker displaying where it was distributed, placing it as being sold initially within Canada.
