Product Description

A rather perfect combination, this purple vinyl on black Eames RAR rocking arm chair for Herman Miller looks amazing on its walnut used, newer, RAR rocking base. The wonderfully dark purple is enhanced by the inky blackness of the shell creating a truly spectacular piece that will easily stand out in any room.

The Eames RAR rocking chair is perhaps one of the most iconic chairs of the fiberglass series and with the addition of a myriad array of upholstery options, these chairs really are highly versatile design pieces and this example is no exception. The use of vinyl means that the covers are as easy to clean as the shells themselves and, with the addition of the foam padding underneath, it also helps to make this chair even more comfortable!

Individual Characteristics

This is a great example of a very unique finish. The black shell is in good vintage condition with no cracks or dents though the vinyl shows a little more signs of age on it. There are some slight minor abrasions in the vinyl but they are not too big nor do they affect the comfort and usability of this wonderful chair.

The ‘S’ in the circle logo indicates this an original Herman Miller arm shell from their Summit Plastics factory and it was produced between 1959 and 1989.
