A rather unique and rare example of a Herman Miller original Eames Greige arm shell with purple hop-sack upholstery designed by Alexander Girard is a real find. Sat upon its dark wood, black frame, used, newer, RAR base this arm shell would make a fantastic addition to any home or chosen space. The strong fibrous finish of the shell indicates it is an earlier shell since later versions have a bolder colour to them, with the fibres slightly less visible.
Upholstered versions of the iconic Eames shells were designed with the assistance of the famous Alexander Girard who headed Herman Miller’s design department. He used a variety of fabrics and a wide range of colours to create an extremely diverse collection and versatile upholstered version of the shells that, much like the standard fibreglass shells, could be used in almost any environment imagined.
The highly fibrous greige shell is in excellent condition for its age, whilst the striking renewed deep purple hop-sack upholstery shows no signs of lifting or tears.
The ‘C’ with the star logo indicates this is shell originates from Herman Miller’s Cincinnati factory.
