Synopsis: This is a cable letter sent to all Herman Miller Showrooms, both company and independent, was typed but hand signed. The letter was an indication of increased prices due to raw material/labor costs and the letter gives indication to how the Company did their best to absorb these increases before having to pass them on by way of price hikes. It is noticeable in the letter that the Eames stacking DSS chair was not increased at all, largely due to it being one of the most lucrative and bestselling products of the era. Other Eames plastic chairs were designated an increase of 3.5% while George Nelson’s EOG was hit with 7%. Max De Pree was the son of Herman Miller’s founder D.J. De Pree and worked tirelessly for the company until his retirement. He would later go on to become the company CEO, following a stint by his brother Hugh.
