Synopsis: This unusual document would certainly not be allowed to be freely distributed in a modern 21st century full of privacy and data laws, but in 1959 it most certainly was. As the title simply puts, it is made up of a list of organisations throughout the US, within varying sectors, that purchased Herman Miller furniture. There are varying theories as to the point and purpose of the document. Some believe that it was colored by design as a ‘yellow pages’ a ‘who’s who’ marketing tool by which an organisation can see the big names it contains and wish to be seen alongside them. Others believe that it may have been used only for internal purposes. The organisations derive from colleges, universities, hospitals, clinics, banks, churches, public buildings, schools, clubs, hotels, airports, and commercial firms. The list is an incredible ensemble of household names, from Harvard to IBM, Johnson and Johnson to Chrysler.
