Synopsis: ‘How to talk your wife out of a Frou Frou bedroom’ is the emboldened introduction to this Herman Miller advert. It is almost certainly a strap line they would not consider using today but this is the late 1950’s, a period where the traditional marriage ‘roles’ were very much in play. The ad itself is for the George Nelson Comprehensive Storage System, or CSS for short. But in the forefront is the Eames PSC fiberglass side chair, so a great opportunity for Miller to get both their flagship designers into the mix. The CSS was highly customizable and, in this advert, aimed at the domestic market, was a layout for a bedroom vanity unit with storage.
