This very rare original, vintage Eames OTW coffee table for Herman Miller by Evans in black and on its iconic molded plywood legs it is in a good aged condition. One of the ‘Plywood Collection’, this table represents the passion the Eames’s had for constructing with a single material and is part of a series of products. It was only produced for a short period of time, roughly 1948-52, which means finding a piece like this is very exciting.
The molded plywood collection, famously, starts with the chairs, namely the DCW and LCW which were produced by Evans too, but, as expressed with this table, the passion stretched to other products and a range of coffee tables were produced to match the chairs. The mid-century design period saw the beginning of the ‘sole product buy’ whereby customers could purchase single items rather than whole rooms and this table is the perfect example of this ideology. It’s simple yet sleek design means it works in a wide range of interior designs and, as is the case with many of the era’s products, it still looks modern today!
The black laminated top is in good vintage condition with only some natural wear expected with its age. It would benefit from a clean, but some of the aged finish may be a little more ingrained.
The legs are in good condition too with only age related wear.
The hand written ‘CTW-1’ helps identify this table as a mid-late 40s production due to the name being changed to ‘OTW’ in 1950.
The table measures: 89cm in length x 61cm in width x 39.5cm in height.
