Login to ask a questionThis Herman Miller vintage Eames blue vinyl and fabric black arm shell on its used, newer, light ash RAR base is a great addition to any home or collection. The upholstered edition of these iconic chairs are ergonomically perfect whilst being incredibly comfortable with the addition of the slightly padded vinyl cover.
The arm shell was the first of the molded fiberglass chairs Charles and Ray perfected and, with the help of Herman Miller, it saw amazing commercial success. The shells were produced with a wide variety of bases, ensuring the versatility of the chair was achievable. The head of Herman Miller’s design department, Alexander Girard, was approached to design upholstered finishes for both the side and arm shells; he produced a vast range of choices with different colours and fabric/vinyl finishes to choose from.
Individual Characteristics
The blue ‘two-tone’ vinyl and fabric finish is a very nice finish to this shell but it does show some signs of lifting at the back of the seat section and there is a small cut in the arm as seen in the images.
The used, newer, RAR base is in good used condition.
The ‘C’ with the five pointed star indicates this shell originates from Herman Miller’s Cincinnati Milicron factory.
