Synopsis: ‘The office is an arena for communications that, with Action Office, can be supported with sound facilities’ remarks the opening sentence by the vice president in this company brochure. It is of course a brochure for the Action Office, a customizable office furniture system conceived by George Nelson and associates, but the pages are littered with Eames designs that seamlessly blend in. The focus of Herman Miller changed within the 1970’s, with work-based products being the prime marketplace drive, and this is evident in releases such as this one. The brochure pages are full of period color photographs of the working Action Office in situ, interspersed with relevant and philosophical paragraphs of copy. Those with a keen eye will spot the Eames Segmented Tables, Aluminum Group, Time Life Executive and Loose Cushion chairs, among others.
