Synopsis: The 1964 Herman Miller binder catalog, with its strikingly recognizable design, is considered to be the highest pinnacle of the company’s brochure offerings over the decades. It is awash with super detailed in-depth technical drawings, full color and black/white photographs, introductions, samples and available options. It is jam packed with the designs of Charles Eames, George Nelson, Isamu Noguchi, and textiles & objects of Alexander Girard. It may be argued that it represents the peak of the mid-century design era too, hence the quality of its content. The layout makes the binder extremely easy to follow and each section begins with a half page introduction and designs represented with both photos and technical drawings. The catalog was released in 1964 and ran until 1968 with sporadic minor updates released that were designed to replace the numbered pages already inside. The first versions of the binder carried sample pages with real textiles, fiberglass and wood veneer but these were replaced with color images in later years.
