Synopsis: ‘A lounge chair should do more than just offer comfortable support for a given period of time’ starts the claim at the top of this 1959 brochure by Herman Miller. It continues ‘it should, through the feel of its materials and cushioning, encourage hours upon hours of relaxation’ and it would be a brave man to say they did not achieve that with these designs. The cover is taken with the eye-catching George Nelson Coconut chair, but the inside double pages are dominated by the Eames Lounge Chair & Ottoman, and Aluminum Group Recliner. This is a small four page booklet with a big design statement.
