Login to ask a questionPossibly the rarest Eames chair. This isn’t only an all original 1st generation Zenith Lemon Yellow arm, it is sat on the iconic ‘Ankle Breaker’ RAR base! The base was only available for a year before it was adapted to the version we know today, but this exclusivity helps make this the most sought after chair!
The style of the base meant it did not work so well when the chair was rocked in, hence the name, but the style of the design is stunning due to the symmetry the inside cross makes. Due to the limited run of production, there numbers are very limited, making this version just as exclusive as the iconic PAW swivel base.
Individual Characteristics
This particular example has aged but remarkably well considering all that it has seen! The colour has still quite a strong and lustrous finish and the shell does not display any cracks in it. There is a minimal amount of shock mount bleed – further images can be provided – but, again, this is limited considering the age of the chair.
The original base is also in a good vintage condition. It does show its age, with surface rust being very much present, but is still strong and sturdy.
Its rope edging and checkerboard label help indicate this is a first generation Zenith arm shell.
