This particular base is an excellent example of the versatility of the Eames shell chair series and the bases they were provided with by Herman Miller. Being a rarer, ‘Tablet Table’ base, this base features a ‘flip-up’ table which allows it to stack away with other bases neatly, whilst providing a surface to write upon.
The stacking base was a common base used by the likes of schools and this style of base was perfect for smaller rooms as it doubled up as the chair and the writing desk; then, if the room was required for something else, the chairs could be stacked away neatly creating the space needed.
This particular version is finished to fit the standard ‘narrow mount’ configured Eames side shells which means it can easily replace original ‘H’ bases or previous narrow mount stacking bases.
The table does show signs of age with some surface scratch marks and pitting but it still flips perfectly and is still sturdy.
