Released since 2015, the Herman Miller Bar & Counter Stools were developed to cater for the modern home and commercial market, utilizing any of the Eames designed side tops in plastic, fiberglass, wire or plywood.
These bases were NOT designed and developed by Charles and Ray Eames but were developed by the Herman Miller company as a modern addition to the portfolio, especially with a recent stronger home market for stools. Whilst we only actively include designs developed during the life time of Charles and Ray Eames in our Wiki, we have included these as you will find new generation fiberglass side tops and K-Wire tops in both the new and secondary market.
The side tops made since 2001 in polypropylene and the beautiful more recent molded plywood versions were also not designed and developed by Charles and Ray Eames. They do however use the principles of the original design and have used modern manufacturing methods and materials in order to create them.
The Herman Miller Bar & Counter Stools are available in two standard heights for each model, a counter and bar size. The bar stool is designed to be higher with specific use for a bar whereas counter stools are designed for lower 'breakfast bar' height levels. As the Eames side tops had the ability to interchange bases it means the stools can be utilized with any of the side top variants. Arm versions are yet to be made available from the factory although it may happen in the secondary market with marrying of parts.
The following model numbers and codes are the portfolio of Eames and Eames inspired models using the Herman Miller Bar and Counter Stools.
There is a methodology to the naming. The D indicates Dining, the next letter indicates the material (W for Wood, F for Fiberglass) with the exception of S which was for Side as it followed the pattern since the 2001 release of the polypropylene variants) the H is for the H Base fitting and the end section is the height BX for Bar Height and CX for Counter Height.
