Login to ask a questionSome simply fantastic chairs! These excellent examples of original Eames red DSW side chairs for Herman Miller are in great vintage condition and look amazing. Coupled with the deep walnut newer, used, dowel base, they create that perfect combination of a rich red on bold wood that works in nearly any environment!
As the shell chair’s popularity grew, Herman Miller introduced new colours, expanding the versatility of the chairs. Red was one of the colours introduced which, through the refined dyeing process, was an excellent finish with its rich deep colour. The highly fibrous finish of the shell indicates it is an older version and they help with the distinctive finish of the shell.
Individual Characteristics
The shells are in great vintage condition. The deep colour is gorgeous though there are natural signs of wear consistent with their age and there may be some slight surface scuffs and marks that differ on each shell – this is two of a few that we have – but further images are available before purchase.
The newer, used, walnut DSW bases are in good condition too with some minor signs of use around the bottom of the legs.
The ‘Herman Miller’ logo inside of the rectangular outline indicates these shells were produced between 1980 and 1993. There is, again on some but not all of the shells, a date label that indicates they were produced in 1989.
