A pair of original Herman Miller Eames black fibreglass DSR dining side chairs finished in blue vinyl material look great on their new, used black Effiel bases. The deep indigo blue is a bold and exciting choice for a chair, especially combined with the stark black, perfect as an addition to an office or dining table.
The Eames shells require little introduction with prototypes beginning in the 1940s, production began in 1950. Arm shells were the first to be produced and the side shells were introduced in 1952/1953.
Alexander Girard was commissioned to help design a wide variety of upholstery finishes for both the side and arm shells, providing an alternative to the standard fiberglass shells and expanding the buying options for these chairs.
These blue vinyl DSR chairs are in a very used condition, with some marks and tears on the stitching of the vinyl. For it to be in a perfect condition, parts of the vinyl would need to be restored, however, it is normal considering its vintage age. The fibreglass shell is in good condition- further images are available upon request.
The ‘S’ within the circle indicates these shells were produced at Herman Miller’s Summit Plastics factory.
