This is a stylish example of an all original Eames Herman Miller ‘La Fonda’ dining arm chair for Alexander Girard’s Del Sol restaurant finished in blue vinyl. Girard’s commission to the restaurant saw him use his friend’s design talent to adapt the famous arm shell into the beautiful new chair with its pedestal base.
The story of this wonderful chair has been well rehearsed over the years; but what is harder to comprehend is just how many wonderful variants there was made available when produced. The myriad of upholstery colours, in both vinyl and fabric, makes these chairs extra special!
This particular example of the iconic chair is in good vintage condition. The blue naugahyde is in good condition but it does have a small cut in the back of the seat and the edging is coming away at the edges slightly as can be seen on the pictures; price does reflect this. The shell, too, is in good vintage condition.
The original base is still in perfect working order.
The ‘S’ within the circle logo on the underside of the shell indicates it originates from Herman Millers Summit Plastics factory.
