A pair of vintage, original Eames side shell chairs for Herman Miller look fantastic in rather rare raw umber coupled with their used, walnut, DSW dowel bases. Raw umber side shells are a highly coveted colour for the Eames shell chairs and these versions are in excellent vintage condition.
The Eames shells require little introduction with prototypes beginning in the 1940s, production began in 1950. Arm shells were the first to be produced and the side shells were introduced in 1952/1953. Raw umber was a later colour offered in the Eames shell series but has proven to be a very sought-after colour amongst collectors’.
Individual Characteristics
As a highly coveted colour, these shells are fantastic examples to own. The chairs do show some natural signs of wear which may be a little more than similar shells of their era, price does reflect this and further pictures are available upon request
The ‘C’ with star indicates these shells originate from Herman Miller’s Cincinnati factory.
