An example of a used, original Tan vinyl Herman Miller Eames armchair on a bright, orange shell, completed with a walnut rocking RAR base. The colorful combination of the tan vinyl against the vibrant orange shell make a fantastic addition to any household environment.
The Eames shells require little introduction with prototypes beginning in the late 1940s, production began in 1950. Arm shells were the first to be produced and the side shells were introduced in 1952/1953.
Alexander Girard was commissioned to help design a wide variety of upholstery finishes for both the side and arm shells, providing an alternative to the standard fiberglass shells and expanding the buying options for these chairs.
The tan vinyl armchair is in used condition, with a few marks on the shell. the vinyl does have marks on the seating area some of which are stress marks. The edging is also coming away in one section, but this would make for an excellent small project due to the unique combination this chair offers; further images are available upon request. The newer, used walnut RAR rocking base is in excellent condition and is still very much functional.
The ‘S’ inside the circle stamp signifies the shell originates from Herman Miller’s Summit Plastics factory.
