Product Description

This is a used Seafoam DSW dining chair, completed with natural chocolate Light oak dowel base to make a wonderful dining chair. The beaming, brilliant blues with oceanic green undertones creates such a fantastic shell colour and it would be an exquisite piece to add to your interior. Ultimately, this dining chair is a splendid addition to add to a modernized home.

The Eames shell series chairs really don’t need any introduction. With early prototypes beginning in the late 1940's, production began on the Eames' dream of 'chairs for the masses' in 1950 with the arm and then the sides later in 1952/53. The original and vintage fiberglass chairs were so versatile and so modern that they only increase in popularity as the years go by.

Fiberglass originals always have a base colour and gorgeous 'visible' fibers in the shell itself. Upholstered versions were introduced by Herman Miller a little later on using fabrics and textiles designed by the esteemed designer Alexander Girard.

Individual Characteristics

This vintage, 2nd generation seafoam DSW dining chair remains in excellent condition despite its age, as with many vintage products. The newer, replacement Herman Miller DSW bases are in good used condition. There are minor scratches around the edges, the shell has aged, and will require some attention to restore it back to its former glory. Further images can be provided upon request.

The patent label suggests that it is was manufactured around 1959-1989.

Investment Value

Eames Shell Chairs vary from 1 to 5 stars for investment. The reasons depend on so many factors but mainly the condition, the rarity of the colour, the originality of the base, the age and of course the maker are those that determine. The vibrant and distinct colour of this particular top will help maintain steady interest, especially the unique blue tones, therefore making this a fantastic investment.
