A pair of vintage editions of Herman Miller produced, Eames white side shells are emboldened by their renewed Alexander Girard designed black upholstery and newer, used black DSW dowel bases making a great example of this iconic chair. The fabric finish looks stylish with its deep black finish on its contrasting white shell.
The Eames shells require little introduction with prototypes beginning in the 1940s, production began in 1950. Arm shells were the first to be produced and the side shells were introduced in 1952/1953.
Alexander Girard was commissioned to help design a wide variety of upholstery finishes for both the side and arm shells, providing an alternative to the standard fiberglass shells and expanding the buying options for these chairs.
The side shells are in good condition for their age with only some light marking expected with age.
The base is in very good condition and provides excellent stability.
The ‘S’ stamp signifies the shells originate from the Summit Herman Miller factory.
