A rather rare version of a classic. This vintage Herman Miller Eames highly fibrous umber DSW shell chair is stunning on its used walnut DSW dowel base. A unique colour, this chair is in a well used vintage condition and is an excellent example of the Eames shell chair. The bold colour compliments the dark walnut colour of the DSW base.
The side variant of the iconic shell chairs was the second version to be produced and was done so in 1952/53. The arm shell was the first one to be produced in 1950 from the combined force of Zenith Plastics and Herman Miller.
As shown in the pictures, the chair is in good vintage condition, has been well used and has aged well with just a few scuff marks on the edge which is expected with ageing.
The newer, replacement Herman Miller walnut DSW base is in good used condition
The ‘C’ logo with a five-point star within it, indicates this shell originates from Herman Millers’ later Cincinnati Milacron factories. This chair therefore ages from between 1968-1978.
