Black is the new black.
And this black on black pair have been in a formal meeting since 1987! They are in excellent condition both the black fiberglass and the black vinyl have really stood the test of time (better than me anyway). There is one tiny puncture on one chair but other than that there are no tears or significant marks on the vinyl and the stitching remains firms without any fraying. There are also no air bubbles or sagging, which is sadly often not the case on the vintage chairs. The fiberglass has no chips or cracks, there are some minor marks as you'd expect for a chair that's over 30 years old but they only had to the character. I like these features but if you wanted to go at the chair with some high grit sandpaper you could probably get them out.
The 'h' bases are dining height and also in great condition, again if you wanted to polish them I'm sure you could make them shine. The feet are in good condition too with no signs of needing to be replaced, as this is an upholstered set there are no shock mounts to worry about. The manufacturing sticker is still on one chair but has faded and can't really be made out except for the words 'Herman Miller' the embossed logo is on there and the original date stamp is still there on one chair as pictured.
A beautiful pair of tuxedo black on black Eames shell chairs!
