This is a 3rd Generation Zenith arm shell by Eames in the highly coveted seafoam colour and on an original silver DAX base. The chair has managed to retain a strong colour though has signs of age. It is an excellent example of a third-generation arm shell and would make a fantastic statement piece to any home.
Differ from the 1950s first generation Arm shell chair, Herman Miller adjusted the base of the second-generation design by extending the height of the front rods, making it taller and away from the user’s leg, which was the main flaw of the first-generation design. The arm tops were the first of the shell chairs to be designed by Charles and Ray with prototypes beginning in the late 1940s. Ultimately, this rocking arm shell chair is an eccentric, timeless piece that is highly sought after.
The distinctive colour has aged in a unique manner. As with many Zenith shells, the colour has slightly faded in a novel way and the shell is in excellent vintage condition. There are no cracks or dents.
The original base has a distinctive aged patina but a swift clean will help restore its shine. The original feet remains intact.
